Cool the planet. One choice at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the program work?

The Carbon Bootcamp guides you in lowering your climate impact in real time. You will receive a total of three boxes filled with gear and challenges, and our text messaging platform will guide you. You engage by texting code words for low carbon footprint choices you make, sending pictures, etc. The Bootcamp has three main components, focusing on home energy use, transportation, and food. Earn points! Become the envy of your peers! (Spread the word!)

Why? It comes down to carbon emissions -- the more we emit, the faster we change climate. Governments and private industry need to act, but so do we as individuals. But what matters more -- carpooling with your neighbor or choosing chicken vs. steak on your burrito?

We make it easy, compelling, and (dare we say) fun to make choices in real time that add up to massive impact, by combining deep expertise in climate science with an experience that you can engage with on your own time, at your own pace.

How long does the program last?

The core program is six weeks, two weeks following the delivery of each of your boxes. We also have a bit of a “warm up” and “cool down” before and after the main program.

When does the program start?

If you are participating through our partnership with GreenTown Los Altos, you may start the program on Saturday June 15, July 13, August 10, or September 7 2019. These are the dates on which you will receive your first box. We close each start dates 10 days prior to the dates listed.

Where do I get my boxes?

If you elect to be sponsored by GreenTown Los Altos, your boxes will be available for pick up at a location in your neighborhood. If you prefer to receive your boxes at your house, you will have the option to pay $15 (i.e., $5 per box) for home delivery. Another great way to get your boxes delivered for free is to volunteer your front stoop as a location where others can pick up their boxes! If you are interested, let us know by filling out our contact form

How do I sign up?

To join the Carbon Bootcamp, just text the word CARBON to the number 474747. You will receive an auto-response from a local number that will guide you through the brief sign up.

Who is eligible to join and what is the program cost?

What if I live outside of the area covered by your partnership with GreenTown Los Altos?

Never fear! We have a mini Carbon Bootcamp available for free to anyone in the United States. You can join by texting the word CARBON to 474747

In the near future, we will be offering the full Carbon Bootcamp in other areas. Contact us to let us know if you would like us to come to your community next!

Why do you need my phone number?

We need your phone number because the Carbon Bootcamp uses text messaging to guide you through the program.

How often will I receive texts?

You will receive texts about once a day, plus responses to the texts you send to us. You can text STOP at any time to unsubscribe.

Will you share my phone number with anyone or any other programs?

No. Please review our full terms and privacy policy for details.

Will you share the information I send you with any other programs?

We will not share any identifiable information without your explicit consent. Please review our full terms and privacy policy for details.

If you elect to be sponsored by GreenTown Los Altos, you agree that we will share your name, zip code, email address, aggregate anonymized data, and any photos that you have given us permission to post online with GreenTown Los Altos, which may then send you further notices, promotions, or solicitations in accordance with their Privacy Policy
